SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 649
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
join Texans across the state in celebrating March 29, 2011, as |
|
|
Vietnam Veterans Day; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Vietnam War was the longest military conflict |
|
|
in United States history; more than three million Americans |
|
|
served in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, with more than |
|
|
58,000 making the ultimate sacrifice, including more than 3,400 |
|
|
Texans; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The men and women who served during the Vietnam |
|
|
War are among those who have defended our nation's security and |
|
|
ideals for more than two centuries; their selfless devotion and |
|
|
strength have left an indelible mark on the world; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In honor of the sacrifices made by those who |
|
|
served in Vietnam, the 81st Texas Legislature established March |
|
|
29 as Vietnam Veterans Day in Texas; the Texas Legislature has |
|
|
also authorized the construction of a monument on the Capitol |
|
|
grounds to honor the Texans who served in Vietnam; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This monument, which has yet to be installed, will |
|
|
represent the culmination of the ongoing efforts of many |
|
|
dedicated citizens and donors and will be a permanent symbol |
|
|
expressing the collective reverence and respect of the people of |
|
|
Texas for those who served and sacrificed in that conflict; it is |
|
|
truly fitting that their devotion to duty and their patriotism be |
|
|
honored and recognized; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the military who |
|
|
served the nation during the Vietnam War, recognize and encourage |
|
|
the efforts of those who are working to design, fund, construct, |
|
|
and install on the Capitol grounds a monument to honor these |
|
|
veterans, and call on all Texans to celebrate March 29, 2011, as |
|
|
Vietnam Veterans Day in Texas; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special day. |
