SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 667
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Ward County and Texans across the state in
  celebrating Ward County Day at the State Capitol; and
 
         WHEREAS, Located along the southwestern edge of the High
  Plains, Ward County was established by the Texas Legislature
  in 1887 out of territory from Tom Green County and named for
  Thomas W. Ward; and
 
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Ward County have been witness to
  many of our state's defining moments; the oil boom of the 1920s
  and 1930s played a vital role in the county's history; farmers
  from the county have established themselves as innovators,
  developing a strain of alfalfa known as Barstow Common that is
  still being planted today, and grapes from Ward County earned
  first prize at the 1904 World's Fair in Saint Louis; and
 
         WHEREAS, Ward County offers a wide variety of attractions
  for residents and visitors alike, including the Monahans
  Sandhills State Historic Park and the Million Barrel Museum,
  which commemorates the important role that petroleum has played
  in the county and in our state's history; and
 
         WHEREAS, The people of Ward County are confidently facing
  the future while continuing to embrace their rich and colorful
  past; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Ward County for their
  many contributions to the prosperity and progress of our state
  and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Ward County Day at
  the State Capitol; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
