SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 687
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Ruth Hinkle Kicklighter on the occasion of her |
|
|
retirement from La Porte High School after an exemplary career in |
|
|
education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ruth Kicklighter moved to Houston from New |
|
|
Orleans after graduating from college, seeking a biology |
|
|
research position at the medical center; her lack of success in |
|
|
that job search led to her taking a temporary teaching position |
|
|
at La Porte High School; that temporary job lasted 45 years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, She taught biology for most of her career at La |
|
|
Porte High School, and she prepared many students for the |
|
|
advanced placement test in biology; she developed the curriculum |
|
|
for courses in anatomy and physiology and taught those classes |
|
|
for a time, and she also served as the science department chair |
|
|
for four years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure at the high school, she was |
|
|
involved with many extracurricular activities; she sponsored the |
|
|
cheerleading squad, coached students for University |
|
|
Interscholastic League science competitions, and worked in the |
|
|
theater department in makeup and sewing groups for the school's |
|
|
musical; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A talented and resourceful educator, Ruth Kicklighter |
|
|
has inspired generations of students through her wise counsel and |
|
|
encouragement; she has had a positive influence on the lives of |
|
|
many young people, and her presence at La Porte High School will |
|
|
be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Ruth Hinkle Kicklighter for her many |
|
|
contributions to the educational system of this state and extend |
|
|
to her best wishes for the retirement years ahead; and, be it |
|
|
further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
