SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 691

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Paducah High School Dragons boys' basketball team, which recently won the University Interscholastic League Class 1A Division II state championship title; and

WHEREAS, The Dragons won their first state title since 1988 by defeating the team from Bronte High School by a score of 45-30; and

WHEREAS, These young athletes have demonstrated great talent and perseverance over the course of the year, ending the season with a record of 29-6; team members Garrett Thompson, Austin Parton, Willie Cantrell, Lonnie Hurd, Andrew Hastings, Devron Brisco, A. J. Cantrell, Cody Austin, Trey McGruder, Cliff Poteet, and Bobby Evans can take great pride in their outstanding performance; and

WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of head coach Jay Cantrell, and with aid of assistant coaches Tyler Adams, Amy Bowles, and Johnny Willis and managers and trainers Jeremiah Deleon, Parker Hicks, Cole Parton, and Leslie Thomas, the Dragons have developed exceptional teamwork and discipline; and

WHEREAS, Paducah High School and the citizens of Paducah are proud of the Dragons for their hard work, their impressive skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Paducah High School Dragons boys' basketball team on their successful season and extend congratulations to them on winning the University Interscholastic League Class 1A Division II state championship title; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
