SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 702
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey |
|
|
Throwdown Cook-off as a Texas State Barbecue Championship |
|
|
competition; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the internationally recognized Alice |
|
|
Evening Lions Club and Alice Evening Lions' Charities, the annual |
|
|
Barbeque Turkey Throwdown Cook-off is held in Alice, Texas, on a |
|
|
weekend in August; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey |
|
|
Throwdown Cook-off began in November of 2008 and includes arts |
|
|
and crafts, a children's cook-off, live entertainment, and a |
|
|
barbecue cook-off sanctioned by the International Barbeque |
|
|
Cookers Association, with more attractions to be added annually; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Alice Evening Lions Club was chartered June |
|
|
25, 1971, and the nonprofit Alice Evening Lions' Charities formed |
|
|
in June of 2007; all the funds raised from the cook-off benefit |
|
|
local community projects; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Alice Evening Lions Club's Barbeque Turkey |
|
|
Throwdown Cook-off has attracted approximately 600 visitors to |
|
|
Alice and is expected to attract 300 to 600 visitors annually; |
|
|
cooking teams and visitors come from all areas of the state; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Texans are noted for their love of barbecue, and |
|
|
this annual cook-off has provided and will continue to provide |
|
|
superior cuisine that satisfies the most discriminating of |
|
|
palates; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the annual Alice Evening Lions |
|
|
Club's Barbeque Turkey Throwdown Cook-off and extend best wishes |
|
|
to all associated with the event; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
this special occasion as an expression of the high regard of the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
