SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 717
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
  welcoming the members of the Texas Catholic Conference
  delegation on the occasion of their Advocacy Day at the State
  Capitol on April 6, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, Catholic ministries provide services to Texans
  from all walks of life; in this state, Catholic bishops shepherd
  and serve 6.7 million Catholics in 15 dioceses, providing
  nourishment for their bodies, souls, and spirits and tirelessly
  advocating for the common good; and
         WHEREAS, There are more than 20 Catholic Charities
  ministries throughout the state, and there are hundreds of
  parish-based social ministries, including the Society of Saint
  Vincent de Paul, that are extended to persons of all races,
  religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds to assist them in their
  everyday lives or in times of crisis; and
         WHEREAS, The Catholic Respect Life program offers services
  to women facing unplanned pregnancies; and
         WHEREAS, Catholic schools emphasize moral development,
  service to others, stewardship, and leadership skills and
  provide education that is grounded in faith for more than 78,000
  Texas students; and
         WHEREAS, Catholic religious education programs provide
  religious instruction and formation to more than 375,000
  Catholic children and their families; and
         WHEREAS, Catholic Family Life Ministries provide marriage
  preparation and enrichment programs and support for families,
  and Catholic chaplains provide pastoral care for those who are
  incarcerated; and
         WHEREAS, Through their dedication to serving the common
  good, Catholic ministries in Texas contribute immeasurably to
  the well-being of the people of this state; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby recognize the members of Catholic
  organizations for the many contributions they make to the
  citizens of Texas and proclaim April 6, 2011, as Texas Catholic
  Conference Advocacy Day in the State Capitol; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the Texas Catholic Conference as an expression of high regard
  from the Texas Senate.
