SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 724
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Carl Brian Vernon
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Lago Vista in mourning the loss of Carl Brian Vernon,
  who died February 2, 2011, at the age of 53; and
 
         WHEREAS, Carl Vernon was born August 31, 1957, in San
  Diego, California; he was a 1975 graduate of Del Valle High
  School, where he was a member of the track and cross-country
  teams; he also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at the age of 14;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, Known for his adventurous spirit and his love of
  the outdoors, Mr. Vernon participated in sailing, scuba diving,
  hang gliding, sky diving, snowboarding, and windsurfing; above
  all, he loved to fly; he was an enthusiastic and skilled pilot and
  aircraft mechanic who founded Lone Star Aercraft and served as a
  civilian instructor for American military test pilot training
  programs; and
 
         WHEREAS, He organized the flyovers of the Lago Vista Air
  Force at the community's annual Fourth of July event for many
  years, and in 1990, he completed a solo flight across the
  Atlantic Ocean in a Cessna 206 aircraft; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mr. Vernon was active in numerous other community
  activities; he led many young men to become Eagle Scouts as a
  scoutmaster for Troop 198 and served as chair of Saint Mary's
  Catholic Church Octoberfest celebration; and
 
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave unselfishly to others, and his generous spirit and his
  enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
  forgotten by those who knew him; and
 
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and his
  family and many friends will long cherish the memories of his
  life and his many achievements; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Carl Brian Vernon: his wife, Rachel; his children,
  Brian, Matthew, Garrett, and Sierra; his mother, Rose Vernon; and
  his siblings, Gina, John, Terri, Colleen, and Kevin; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
  Carl Brian Vernon.
