SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 734
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the City of Converse on the occasion of its 50th |
|
|
anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The City of Converse was incorporated on March 25, |
|
|
1961, and soon held elections to name the city's first officials; |
|
|
Ed J. Kneupper was elected mayor and Willard Janssen was elected |
|
|
town marshal; aldermen were H. R. Voges, E. M. Schertz, Joseph J. |
|
|
Staudt, Edward Zimmerman, and Milton Schumann; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Recognizing the need for recreational |
|
|
opportunities for city residents, leaders built an exceptional |
|
|
city park, which in 1975 added a swimming pool; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Area citizens have long understood the importance |
|
|
of education and have worked to prioritize their children's |
|
|
academic development, beginning with the 1864 construction of a |
|
|
school by Theo L. Stapper and his neighbors; through the years, |
|
|
local residents have continued that commitment, and today, the |
|
|
Judson Independent School District provides exceptional |
|
|
opportunities for area students; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Converse residents have played an important role |
|
|
in the history of our country; scientist Hans Georg Clamann was |
|
|
instrumental in developing the medical and physiological |
|
|
foundations of manned space flight in the early days of the |
|
|
nation's space program; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, As they celebrate the 50th anniversary of their |
|
|
city's incorporation, the people of Converse look forward to a |
|
|
bright future while continuing to embrace their rich and colorful |
|
|
past; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Converse for their |
|
|
many contributions to our state and extend to them best wishes |
|
|
for a memorable 50th anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the city as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
