SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 737

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Rene G. Garza, who has been selected as Mission High School Teacher of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Garza teaches psychology and health and coaches the girls' basketball team at Mission High School; he and his son, Rene Garza II, who has been named teacher of the year at Pearson Elementary School, are the only father and son pair to be named campus teachers of the year in the Mission Consolidated Independent School District; and

WHEREAS, Chosen by his fellow teachers for this notable honor, Mr. Garza is a veteran of some 35 years in the teaching profession, and he has been named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association Hall of Fame; he is known for the rapport he has developed with his students and his ability to make lessons enjoyable while maintaining an orderly and disciplined classroom; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Garza is an exceptionally talented and skilled educator, and his high expectations and exemplary teaching methods have through the years instilled in his students a sense of pride and a lifelong love of learning; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Garza is justly deserving of recognition for his many achievements and his dedication to helping today's students develop the skills they need in order to become productive members of society; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Rene G. Garza on his commitment to his profession and his students and extend congratulations to him on being named Mission High School Teacher of the Year; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
