SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 746
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Austin Downtown Founder Lions Club on the occasion |
|
|
of its 95th anniversary; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 1916, the Austin Downtown Founder |
|
|
Lions Club is the world's oldest continuously operating Lions |
|
|
Club; it represents District 2-S3 for Lions Club International, |
|
|
which is the world's largest service club organization, with 1.35 |
|
|
million members in more than 45,000 clubs worldwide; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Drawing on Helen Keller's 1925 call to be "Knights |
|
|
of the Blind," Lions Clubs have throughout their history been |
|
|
best known for fighting blindness; the Austin Downtown Founder |
|
|
Lions Club has steadfastly pursued this goal through its |
|
|
sponsorship of the Lone Star Lions Eye Bank and its support of |
|
|
such organizations as the Texas School for the Blind and Visually |
|
|
Impaired and Leader Dogs for the Blind; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Austin Downtown Founder Lions Club has |
|
|
developed a close association with the concept of public |
|
|
recreation and community beautification in the city; its members |
|
|
built Lions Municipal Golf Course and donated it to the city, and |
|
|
the organization played a vital role in the creation of the |
|
|
Austin Parks and Recreation Department; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Austin Downtown Founder Lions Club has for 95 |
|
|
years served the community with dedication and commitment, and it |
|
|
is truly deserving of recognition for its exemplary work; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the Austin Downtown Founder Lions |
|
|
Club on its many outstanding contributions to the community and |
|
|
extend to its members best wishes for a memorable 95th |
|
|
anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
this outstanding organization as an expression of esteem from the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
