SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 750
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Austin's Troop 1 of the Boy Scouts of America on the
  occasion of its 100th anniversary; and
 
         WHEREAS, William D. Boyce founded the Boy Scouts of America
  in 1910; the scouting movement got its start in Austin the next
  year, when Lyman J. Bailey organized Troop 1 on March 7, 1911; Mr.
  Bailey was also instrumental in creating the first Boy Scout
  Council in Texas, the Austin Council, now known as the Capitol
  Area Council; and
 
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Troop 1 has had several notable
  sponsors, including the Texas Capitol in 1937 and 1938; Governor
  W. Lee O'Daniel served as committee chair for the troop in 1940
  and 1941; the troop is now sponsored by First Presbyterian
  Church; and
 
         WHEREAS, Troop 1 has taken part in numerous scouting
  assemblies, including Scout Field Day and Scout-O-Rama; it has
  since 1921 produced 55 Eagle Scouts; and
 
         WHEREAS, This historic troop is truly deserving of
  recognition for its longtime dedication to the principles of
  scouting; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Boy Scout Troop 1 in Austin on its
  many contributions to the community and to the scouting movement
  and extend to its members and scoutmasters best wishes for a
  memorable 100th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the troop as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
