SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 763

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join the citizens of the Coastal Bend and Texans across the state in celebrating April 18, 2011, as Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi Day at the Capitol; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1947 as the University of Corpus Christi, Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi is dedicated to becoming one of the leading centers of higher education in the Gulf of Mexico region while serving the intellectual, cultural, social, environmental, and economic needs of South Texas; and

WHEREAS, The university has grown from an original student body of 312 to include more than 10,000 students from 48 states and 67 foreign countries; it grants bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from five colleges and offers a rigorous curriculum in a supportive, multicultural learning community; and

WHEREAS, This exemplary institute of higher education is truly deserving of recognition for its many contributions to the state and to The Texas A&M University System; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and staff of Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi on their commitment to educational excellence and extend to them best wishes for a memorable Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi Day at the Capitol; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the university as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
