SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 765
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is honored to |
|
|
recognize the sixth class of the Senator Gregory Luna Legislative |
|
|
Scholars and Fellows Program, conducted by the Senate Hispanic |
|
|
Research Council and named in memory of Senator Gregory Luna of |
|
|
San Antonio; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, A true champion for the underrepresented and |
|
|
underserved in Texas, Senator Luna dedicated his life to public |
|
|
service and fought for educational equity; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, A tribute to Senator Luna's admirable work in the |
|
|
Senate, this prestigious program was created to provide |
|
|
professional opportunities for undergraduate and graduate-level |
|
|
students from across the state to gain invaluable experience by |
|
|
serving as full-time legislative assistants in the Texas Senate |
|
|
and acquire the skills necessary to become successful leaders for |
|
|
our great state; and |

|
|
WHEREAS, These Scholars and Fellows also coordinated the |
|
|
Fourth Biennial Senator Gregory Luna Scholars Youth Leadership |
|
|
Institute which provides high school students from the XY-Zone |
|
|
program of Communities In Schools with an inside look at the |
|
|
legislative process and promotes successful completion of their |
|
|
college admission process; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, The following Scholars and Fellows have |
|
|
demonstrated outstanding dedication and achievement in Senate |
|
|
offices: Lionel Aguirre from Austin, serving in the office of |
|
|
State Senator Kirk Watson; Ryan Alter from Austin, serving in the |
|
|
office of State Senator Craig Estes; Roy Attwood from San Juan, |
|
|
serving in the office of State Senator Carlos Uresti; Elisabeth |
|
|
Crawford from Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico, serving in the office |
|
|
of State Senator Carlos Uresti; Ryan Delgado from McAllen, |
|
|
serving in the office of State Senator Jose Rodriguez; Wendilyn |
|
|
Ilund Diaz from Austin, serving in the office of State Senator |
|
|
Royce West; Andrea Garcia from Falfurrias, serving in the office |
|
|
of Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst; Maria Garcia from San |
|
|
Antonio, serving in the office of State Senator Leticia Van de |
|
|
Putte; Omar Gomez from Corpus Christi, serving in the office of |
|
|
State Senator Kel Seliger; Andrea Gutierrez from McAllen, |
|
|
serving in the office of State Senator Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa; |

|
Matthew Hall from Fort Worth, serving with State Senator Robert |
|
|
Duncan in the office of the Senate Committee on State Affairs; |

Cathryn Ibarra from Houston, serving in the office of State |

|
Senator John Whitmire; Robert Lopez from San Antonio, serving in |
|
|
the office of State Senator Mario Gallegos; Yesenia Lugo from |
|
|
Little River, serving with State Senator Eddie Lucio in the |
|
|
office of the Senate Committee on International Relations and |
|
|
Trade; Daniel Vasquez from Houston, serving in the office of |
|
|
State Senator Leticia Van de Putte; Lissette Villarruel from |
|
|
Dallas, serving in the office of State Senator Wendy Davis; and |
|
|
Priscilla Weninger from Houston, serving in the office of State |
|
|
Senator Judith Zaffirini; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend these promising students for their |
|
|
remarkable service this session and wish them continued success |
|
|
as they prepare to become the future leaders of our great state; |
|
|
and, be it further |

|
|
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be presented to |
|
|
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
