SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 768

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to congratulate Reyna Rivera on receiving the Parent of the Year Award from Communities In Schools of Texas; and

WHEREAS, Communities In Schools is part of a nationwide program whose mission is to help young people stay in school, learn, and prepare for a successful life by providing school-based social services and links to community resources; and

WHEREAS, Communities In Schools recognizes that effective dropout prevention must be a community effort; the Communities In Schools state office annually honors outstanding Texans from different areas of service for their commitment to students and families, the community at large, and the Communities In Schools program; and

WHEREAS, Reyna Rivera is an exceptionally resourceful and talented champion for her five children as they make their way through the challenges of school life; she is actively involved with the SmartKids after-school program, and her understanding nature and determination have made her an example to other parents and teachers alike; her ability to overcome difficult circumstances has given her the confidence to serve as an outstanding role model for her children; and

WHEREAS, As an award winner, Reyna Rivera is being honored for her exemplary efforts to reduce dropout rates and help students prepare for a better future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend Reyna Rivera on her dedication to the needs of at-risk students and congratulate her on being named Communities In Schools 2011 Parent of the Year; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
