SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 819

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Texas Bay Area Credit Union on the momentous occasion of its 75th anniversary on May 18, 2011; and

WHEREAS, The Texas Bay Area Credit Union was founded in 1936 as the Houston Sinclair Refinery Employees' Federal Credit Union on the site of the refinery; it had 864 members and more than $28,000 in shares by the end of its first year; and

WHEREAS, The credit union was moved to a new location in Pasadena in the 1970s, and by 1980, its accumulated assets were more than $14 million; the Texas Bay Area Credit Union adopted its current name in the 1990s, and by the year 2000, its membership had grown to more than 22,000; and

WHEREAS, The Texas Bay Area Credit Union today serves more than 25,000 members and employs nearly 100 area residents; it offers three branch locations in Houston and Pasadena; it supports higher education by awarding scholarships to members, and it recently sponsored the 2010 Wings Over Houston Airshow; and

WHEREAS, The Texas Bay Area Credit Union helps its members achieve financial security and plays a vital role in the economy of the communities it serves; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby extend to the members, administrators, and staff of the Texas Bay Area Credit Union congratulations on the institution's 75th anniversary and best wishes for continued success; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Texas Bay Area Credit Union to commemorate this special occasion.
