SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 837
 
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Ada Edwards, who is retiring from her position with the
  City of Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Ada Edwards has served the citizens of Houston
  with compassion and dedication in many capacities through the
  years; as Deputy Chief of Staff for Neighborhoods, she worked
  diligently to strengthen and preserve the character and history
  of Houston communities, and her most recent service as interim
  Director of Housing and Community Development has further
  demonstrated her commitment to building a strong and vibrant
  city; and
         WHEREAS, She has also served three terms on the Houston
  City Council, representing District D; she served on numerous
  committees during her tenure on the council and chaired the
  Housing and Community Development Committee, the Flooding and
  Drainage Issues Committee, and the State of Emergency HIV-AIDS
  Task Force; and
         WHEREAS, Talented and resourceful, she is in much demand as
  a speaker, and she hosts a weekly news and public affairs program
  on radio station KROI called Dialogue with Ada Edwards; she
  founded the Ida Delaney-Byron Gillum Justice Committee and has
  generously given of her time and energy to such organizations as
  the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People,
  the Union Community Fund, the Houston Area Women's Center, and
  the Texas State Coalition Against Apartheid; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant and community leader,
  Ada Edwards has inspired countless citizens to take action and
  participate in the betterment of their city; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Ada Edwards on her exceptional
  service to the people of Houston and extend to her best wishes for
  continued success in all her future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
