SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 862
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Peggy Jo Mason
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Harris County in mourning the loss of Peggy Jo Mason,
  who died January 23, 2011, at the age of 73; and
         WHEREAS, Peggy was born on October 12, 1937, in Alta Loma,
  Texas; at the age of 13, she moved with her family to Newton; and
         WHEREAS, Following her graduation from Newton High School
  in May of 1955, Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Charles
  Mason; the couple moved to Houston when Peggy found a position
  with a Houston bank; and
         WHEREAS, Peggy worked for many years in both small and
  large businesses in several industries in the private sector,
  gaining valuable professional business experience and management
  skills; she also became active in the Republican Party and served
  as president of the Northwest Forest Republican Women's Club in
  the early 1990s; and
         WHEREAS, Because of her strong background in office
  management, she was recruited to help modernize the Harris County
  District Clerk's Office, where she worked until she was asked to
  join the office of the Harris County tax assessor-collector for
  similar reasons; and
         WHEREAS, Peggy retired in 2001, only to later return to
  work as the taxpayer liaison officer for the Harris County
  Appraisal District, recruited again by a former employer who knew
  of her extraordinary capabilities, her dedication to public
  service, and her record of success in facing unique and complex
  challenges; and
         WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, she was highly respected by her
  employers for her skills and dedication; she was also known as a
  leader in the community who gave willingly of her time and energy
  to a number of causes; she was involved in Boy Scouts of America
  programs when her sons were growing up, and throughout her life,
  she was active in the American Cancer Society; and
         WHEREAS, Peggy was beloved by many, and her courage in the
  face of her illness was exemplary and a source of inspiration to
  all who knew her; and
         WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
  she gave unselfishly to others, and she will be greatly missed by
  all who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Peggy Jo Mason: her husband, Charles Mason; her sons,
  Mike, Tony, and Tracey; her brother, Dick McMullen; her sister,
  Emily Sharki; and her four grandchildren and three
  great-grandchildren; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Peggy Mason.
