SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 869
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Live Oak and Texans across the state in
  observing National Police Week; and
         WHEREAS, President John F. Kennedy in 1962 designated May
  15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week
  in which it falls as National Police Week; in commemoration of
  this special occasion, the Live Oak Police Department is holding
  a ceremony on May 18, 2011, to honor those police officers who
  have given their lives in the line of duty; and
         WHEREAS, Peace officers throughout the nation work with
  devotion, sacrifice, and selflessness to protect the lives and
  property of our country's citizens; despite the important role
  they play in our society, more than 60,000 law enforcement
  officers are assaulted each year, and since the first recorded
  death in 1792, more than 18,000 of them have made the ultimate
  sacrifice in the pursuance of their duties, including Officer
  Alfredo F. Araiza of the Live Oak Police Department; and
         WHEREAS, The ceremony in Live Oak will include
  presentations by the Live Oak Police Color Guard and the Live Oak
  Police Rifle Team; musical performances will further add to the
  dignity of the ceremony; and
         WHEREAS, This event is a fitting acknowledgement and
  celebration of the outstanding service and sacrifices of our
  state and nation's law enforcement personnel; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to our nation's law enforcement
  officers and extend best wishes to the Live Oak Police Department
  for a memorable ceremony; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this solemn occasion.
