SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 886
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the Arthritis Foundation and Texans across the state in
  observing May of 2011 as Fight Arthritis Pain Month in Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Arthritis is the number one cause of disability in
  the United States, and more than 4.1 million Texans suffer the
  effects of the disease; and
         WHEREAS, Affecting all demographic and socioeconomic
  groups, arthritis puts people at higher risk for a number of
  other conditions, including premature heart disease, diabetes,
  high blood pressure, depression, and anxiety; its effects cost
  Texans an estimated $8.7 billion each year; and
         WHEREAS, Arthritis is widely believed to affect only older
  adults, but more than 300,000 children in the United States have
  been diagnosed with the disease; and
         WHEREAS, Arthritis exacts a toll on a significant part of this
  state's population, and it is truly fitting that a month be set aside
  to educate the public about this disease and about the resources
  available to those who suffer from it; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend the Arthritis Foundation on its efforts
  to raise awareness of the disease and extend best wishes for a
  successful Fight Arthritis Pain Month in Texas; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  recognition of Fight Arthritis Pain Month.
