Joe Roach, Jr. |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Joe Roach, Jr., who |
|
died April 18, 2011, at the age of 49; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Joe Roach was born May 11, 1961, in Richmond, |
|
Virginia; he moved to Houston with his family as a young child and |
|
went on to graduate with high honors from Clear Creek High |
|
School; he attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was selected to |
|
attend both Boys State and Boys Nation; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Roach graduated summa cum laude from |
|
Graceland University in Iowa with a bachelor's degree in business |
|
administration; he later earned a law degree from the Southern |
|
Methodist University Dedman School of Law and joined the Harris |
|
County District Attorney's Office, where he amassed an |
|
impressive record, losing only one case in seven years; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Following his service in the district attorney's |
|
office, Mr. Roach was elected to the Houston city council and |
|
served with distinction for three terms; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Roach engaged in the private practice of law |
|
for more than 20 years as a trial lawyer, receiving many awards |
|
for his exemplary service, including Houston Young Lawyer of the |
|
Year, and he received five Outstanding Young Houstonian awards |
|
and five Outstanding Young Texan awards; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Active in community affairs, Mr. Roach was an |
|
advocate for Little People of America and gave generously of his |
|
time and energy to Goodwill Industries, the Briarwood School, and |
|
Annunciation Orthodox School; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
|
gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
|
counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted son, husband, and father, and he |
|
leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his |
|
family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Joe Roach, Jr.: his wife of 25 years, Becky; his |
|
children, Ross, Sherry, and Will; and his parents, Joe Roach, |
|
Sr., and Sherry Roach; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Joe Roach, Jr. |
