SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 908
         WHEREAS, It is a distinct honor for the Senate of the State
  of Texas to pay tribute to the talented and famed star Debbie
  Reynolds and to extend to her a warm welcome on the occasion of
  her visit to our state; and
 
         WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mary Frances Reynolds was born in
  El Paso in 1932; after moving with her family to Burbank,
  California, she was discovered at the age of 16 by talent scouts
  from Warner Brothers and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer when she won the
  local "Miss Burbank" beauty pageant; and
 
         WHEREAS, Her movie career as Debbie Reynolds began in 1948
  when she appeared in June Bride, and for over six decades now, she
  has charmed the world with her gifted singing, dancing, and
  acting; and
 
         WHEREAS, After costarring in one of the greatest musicals
  of all time, Singin' in the Rain, she became one of Hollywood's
  most sought-after actresses and went on in the 1960s to endear
  herself to cinematic followers with her roles in How the West Was
  Won and The Unsinkable Molly Brown; and
 
         WHEREAS, Her career continued with numerous performances
  onstage, her popular nightclub acts, and concert tours in every
  major American city; in addition, she laid the groundwork for
  what is now the Debbie Reynolds Hollywood Motion Picture Museum,
  which consists of what is estimated to be the largest private
  collection of Hollywood memorabilia in the world; and
 
         WHEREAS, In 2003, Debbie was presented with the Lifetime
  Achievement Award from the 82nd Hollywood Chamber of Commerce;
  she was the first woman to receive this award, which honored her
  for her outstanding career and many contributions to Hollywood;
  and
 
         WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Debbie has been a passionate
  fundraiser for numerous philanthropic causes; she has worked
  selflessly on behalf of the Thalian Mental Health Clinic at
  Cedars-Sinai for emotionally disturbed children, serving as its
  founder and president; she has also been a lifelong supporter of
  the Girl Scouts of America; and
 
         WHEREAS, Noted for her indomitable spirit, her generous
  nature, and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest,
  Debbie Reynolds is beloved and respected by her fellow Americans,
  and it is indeed an honor to have her presence once again in the
  Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to Debbie Reynolds and commend
  her for her talent and her many lifetime accomplishments; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
