SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 921
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Hector H. Garcia Sr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of noted businessman and
  civic leader Hector H. Garcia Sr., who died April 26, 2011, at the
  age of 80; and
         WHEREAS, Hector H. Garcia Sr. was born August 6, 1930, in
  Laredo; he was valedictorian of his class at Saint Joseph's
  Academy in 1949, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree from
  Saint Mary's University and a master's degree from Texas A&I
  University; and
         WHEREAS, Well known for his exceptional business acumen,
  Mr. Garcia enjoyed enduring success in the fields of insurance,
  real estate, and financial investments; he was a general partner
  in several firms, including the H. H. Garcia Management Company,
  and he played an important role in the acquisition of the
  Ursuline School property for Saint Augustine High School; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Garcia was active in a wide variety of
  community affairs, serving as president of the Laredo Chamber of
  Commerce, League of United Latin American Citizens Council Number
  12, and the Laredo Rotary Club; he was inducted into the Laredo
  Latin American Hall of Fame and the Saint Mary's University Hall of
  Fame, and he and his wife of 53 years, Altagracia, were named
  Laredo Morning Times Couple of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, He was beloved by his family and friends, and he
  will long be remembered for his generous spirit and his many
  achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Hector H. Garcia Sr.; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Hector H. Garcia Sr.
