SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 939
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize The University of Texas at Arlington women's tennis |
|
|
team, which recently won the 2011 Southland Conference Women's |
|
|
Tennis Tournament; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The University of Texas at Arlington women's |
|
|
tennis team defeated last year's champion Northwestern State |
|
|
University 4-2 to win their sixth Southland Conference |
|
|
Tournament title and an automatic berth to the National |
|
|
Collegiate Athletic Association Regional Tournament; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Prior to the tournament, the Lady Mavericks were |
|
|
crowned the Southland Conference Regular Season Champions for the |
|
|
second time in three years; the team finished conference play |
|
|
undefeated with a record of 11-0 and an overall record of 17-4; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Head Coach Diego Benitez was named the Southland |
|
|
Conference Coach of the Year for the second time in his career as |
|
|
he led the university to its second undefeated season in the last |
|
|
three years; he previously received the honor in 2009 while |
|
|
posting another perfect conference record; the Southland |
|
|
Conference includes 12 schools with a combined enrollment of more |
|
|
than 180,000 students; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For the second time in conference history, all |
|
|
four of the top awards were presented to The University of Texas |
|
|
at Arlington: in addition to Coach Benitez's being named 2011 |
|
|
Southland Conference Coach of the Year, Daiana Negreanu was named |
|
|
Women's Tennis Player of the Year; Linda Aqvist was named |
|
|
Freshman of the Year, and Natalia Mayuk was named Newcomer of the |
|
|
Year; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby congratulate The University of Texas at |
|
|
Arlington women's tennis team and their coach for winning the |
|
|
Southland Conference championship title and commend them on |
|
|
their outstanding achievements; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
