SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 963

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to join Texans across the state in celebrating May 17, 2011, as BEST Robotics Day at the Capitol; and

WHEREAS, BEST stands for Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology; the organization was founded in 1993 in Grayson County, Texas, and is a nonprofit volunteer-driven organization with a mission to engage students in science studies and to excite and inspire them to pursue careers in those vital fields through participation in competitive events; and

WHEREAS, This outstanding organization sponsors an annual competition involving teams of middle school and high school students who must design and build a robot to perform a specific task, write a technical notebook or engineering journal, create a website, and deliver an oral presentation to a panel of judges; and

WHEREAS, In addition to improving students' skills in technical and engineering fields, the competition helps them develop leadership, teamwork, project management, and organizational skills; and

WHEREAS, BEST Robotics is truly a worthwhile endeavor deserving of recognition for its role in helping to inspire and prepare the next generation of scientists and engineers to face the challenges of the future; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby commend the participants in this exemplary organization on their commitment to Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology and to filling the need for engineers and technical workers in this state and nation and extend to all sincerest wishes for a successful BEST Robotics Day at the Capitol; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in honor of this special day.
