SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 964
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Henry's Homemade Ice Cream in Plano, which is |
|
|
celebrating 25 years in the ice cream business with a |
|
|
ribbon-cutting ceremony on May 13, 2011; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Henry's Homemade Ice Cream moved to Plano in 1992 |
|
|
from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, hoping to fill a need for |
|
|
specialty ice cream in the growing, thriving city; the move was |
|
|
good for the ice cream company and good for Plano; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Owner Henry J. Gentry, Jr., and his company |
|
|
participate in many community activities; they operate on the |
|
|
principle that it is better to give than to receive, and they are |
|
|
happy to let the world know that ice cream makes you pretty; the |
|
|
company is dedicated to enriching the area's quality of life and |
|
|
has hosted fund-raisers, donated gift certificates, and |
|
|
generously supported many local events; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Gentry is a 16-year member of the Texas |
|
|
Restaurant Association and serves on the board of directors of |
|
|
the Greater Dallas Restaurant Association; he is a past president |
|
|
of the National Ice Cream Retailers Association; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Henry's Homemade Ice Cream has garnered numerous |
|
|
accolades over the years; named best ice cream in the metroplex |
|
|
by D Magazine in 2002, Henry's Homemade Ice Cream also won the |
|
|
Forrest Mock National Ice Cream Award in 2005; the company |
|
|
created a specialty ice cream, Senator Shapiro's Texas Praline, |
|
|
to honor the senator when she served as Governor for a Day in |
|
|
2005; last year, it won numerous awards in the chocolate, |
|
|
vanilla, and specialty flavor categories at the national ice |
|
|
cream convention competition in Nashville; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the owner, management, and employees |
|
|
of Henry's Homemade Ice Cream for their outstanding ice cream and |
|
|
their many contributions to the community and extend to all |
|
|
congratulations on the company's 25th anniversary; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the company as a memento of this special occasion. |
