SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 984

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Space Center Intermediate Band, which is being honored with the Sudler Cup by the John Philip Sousa Foundation at a concert on June 1, 2011, at the Lee Center for the Performing Arts in Houston; and

WHEREAS, The Space Center Intermediate Band is directed by Donald McCandless and was selected for this prestigious award from among applications received by the John Philip Sousa Foundation from throughout the United States and Canada; and

WHEREAS, The coveted Sudler Cup is sponsored by Louis and Virginia Sudler and honors middle school band programs that have demonstrated consistently high standards of excellence over a period of seven years with the same conductor; and

WHEREAS, Conductor Donald McCandless and the talented musicians in the Space Center Intermediate Band have displayed exceptional talent and musicianship in their performances; and

WHEREAS, The members of the Space Center Intermediate Band and their conductor are the source of tremendous pride for their school and their state, and they deserve recognition for their worthy accomplishment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd Legislature, hereby congratulate the members of the Space Center Intermediate Band and conductor Donald McCandless for being awarded the Sudler Cup by the John Philip Sousa Foundation and extend best wishes to all for continued success in the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the Space Center Intermediate Band as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
