SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 994
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the Harris County Historical Commission on the occasion of
  the dedication ceremony for the 1936 Centennial Marker replica
  honoring Lorenzo de Zavala; and
         WHEREAS, The original marker, erected during the Texas
  Centennial celebration and marking the site of the home of
  Lorenzo de Zavala, was severely damaged during Hurricane Ike;
  this replacement monument is the only replica of a Centennial
  Marker to be authorized by the Texas Historical Commission; and
         WHEREAS, One of the seminal figures in Texas history,
  Lorenzo de Zavala was a signer of the Texas Declaration of
  Independence and served as the first vice president of the
  Republic of Texas; his plank-covered log home, the first in the
  municipality of Harrisburg, was built in 1829 and served as a
  hospital following the Battle of San Jacinto; and
         WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that Texans continue to pay
  tribute to the memory of Lorenzo de Zavala, and the dedication of
  this marker represents an opportunity for people to honor his
  many achievements; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend the Harris County Historical
  Commission on its commitment to preserving the area's rich legacy
  and extend best wishes for a memorable dedication ceremony for
  the 1936 Centennial Marker replica honoring Lorenzo de Zavala;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
