SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1004
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Clifton Gilmore, Jr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Clifton Gilmore, Jr., who died May 2,
  2011, at the age of 80; and
         WHEREAS, Clifton Gilmore was born November 17, 1930, to
  Clifton Gilmore, Sr., and Bernice Paul Gilmore; he lost his mother at
  an early age, and he and his four sisters were raised by their father,
  their paternal grandmother, and, later, their stepmother; and
         WHEREAS, He attended schools in New York and joined the
  United States Army, serving in the Transportation Corps; he
  married in 1955 and became the proud father of two daughters and a
  son; over the next two decades, Mr. Gilmore took his family around
  the world with him as he traveled on military assignments; and
         WHEREAS, After 21 years of service, he retired from the Army
  and began teaching high school military science in the Washington,
  D.C., public school system; he completed course work at District of
  Columbia Teachers College, and a few years later, he became a labor
  relations specialist with the federal government in Washington;
  following his retirement from that job, he began a third career as a
  manager in security and logistics at the International Monetary
  Fund in Washington, D.C.; and
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian and the son of an ordained
  minister, Mr. Gilmore took his children to church regularly; while
  in Washington, D.C., he joined Metropolitan Baptist Church, where
  he served as an usher and was later appointed to the deacon board;
  for the last decade, he lived in Wadesboro, North Carolina, where
  he was a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church and was
  active in the Angel Food Ministry; a wise and generous man, Clifton
  Gilmore lived a full and productive life, and he was respected and
  admired by all who knew him; he was a devoted father and a treasure
  to his family and friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Clifton Gilmore,
  Jr., and extend sincere condolences to his bereaved family: his
  daughters and son-in-law, Judge Vanessa Gilmore and Pamela and
  Terrance Wilson; his son, David Gilmore; his sister, Hermine
  Burton; and his two grandsons; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Clifton Gilmore, Jr.
