SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1038
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Conner Harrington Republican Women's Club, which |
|
|
is entering its 40th year as a federated club; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since its founding, members of the club have |
|
|
served as county campaign chairs for numerous Republicans, |
|
|
including such political leaders as John Tower, Bill Clements, |
|
|
and George W. Bush; members have traveled out of state at their |
|
|
own expense as members of the Mighty Texas Strike Force; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Club members helped to elect the first Republican |
|
|
judge to a district court in Collin County and spearheaded a |
|
|
write-in campaign to have a member of the club become the first |
|
|
woman appointed to a Collin County Court-at-Law bench; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Highly effective leaders in the Plano community, |
|
|
club members helped one of their members become mayor of Plano |
|
|
and later serve in the Texas Senate; they campaigned strongly for |
|
|
the appointment of the first woman to the Collin County |
|
|
Commissioner's Court, where she still serves; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of the club are upstanding |
|
|
individuals who are principled representatives on the local, |
|
|
district, county, and state levels; six members have been named |
|
|
as the Texas Federation's Top Ten Republican Women in the state |
|
|
and six members have won the John McVeigh Award in Collin County; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Conner Harrington |
|
|
Republican Women's Club on their outstanding work on behalf of |
|
|
the Republican Party and extend congratulations to them as they |
|
|
enter their 40th year as a federated club; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the club as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
