SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1188
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Reverend J. J. Jackson III for his many achievements
  and his contributions to his church and his community; and
         WHEREAS, A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Reverend Jackson
  is pastor of Miles Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in
  Houston; he is following in the footsteps of his father, who was
  an itinerant preacher in the Christian Methodist Episcopal
  Church in Alabama for 50 years; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Reverend Jackson has ministered
  faithfully to the temporal and spiritual needs of countless
  people across the nation; an accomplished scholar and
  theologian, he earned a bachelor's degree in theology and a
  master's degree in Biblical studies from Andersonville Seminary
  in Georgia and he holds an honorary doctorate from the American
  Science Institute in California; and
         WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson has been active in numerous
  community and professional organizations, including the
  Christian Ecumenical Fellowship, the National Association for
  the Advancement of Colored People, the Southern Christian
  Leadership Conference, and the Christian Methodist Episcopal
  Minister's Alliance; and
         WHEREAS, A man of spiritual depth and devotion, he has had
  a profound influence on the lives of countless people; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Reverend J. J. Jackson III on his
  many outstanding accomplishments and his commitment to his faith
  and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his
  future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
