SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1196
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Humberto Lozano Lopez
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Robstown in mourning the loss of Humberto Lozano
  Lopez, who died May 16, 2011, at the age of 74; and
         WHEREAS, Humberto Lopez was born on January 22, 1937, in
  Robstown; he graduated in 1956 from Robstown High School, where
  he participated in football, track and field, choir, drama, and
  boxing; he served in the Texas Army National Guard from 1956 to
  1962; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Lopez went on to become a pioneer in Spanish
  entertainment; he began his career with a 15-minute radio program
  called the American GI Forum with Dr. Hector P. Garcia; he then
  founded his own radio stations in Corpus Christi, Victoria, and
  San Antonio, as well as the Tejano Music Video Network, KTMV; and
         WHEREAS, He also founded one of the first national Spanish
  television shows and brought many English movies to Hispanic
  audiences; he was inducted into the Tejano Music Hall of Fame in
  2005; and
         WHEREAS, He was dedicated to his wife of 55 years, Minerva,
  and to his children and grandchildren; he gave willingly of his
  time and energy to help those in need, and he was respected for
  his talent, his generous spirit, and his exceptional
  accomplishments; and
         WHEREAS, Humberto Lopez was an exemplary gentleman, and he
  leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his
  family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Humberto Lozano Lopez; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
  day, it do so in memory of Humberto Lopez.
