SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1197
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Oscar Raul Cárdenas
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of McAllen in mourning the loss of Oscar Raul Cárdenas,
  who died May 13, 2011, at the age of 50; and
         WHEREAS, Oscar Raul Cárdenas was an exemplary citizen
  whose determination, spirit, and many accomplishments in the
  face of adversity served as an inspiration to all those who knew
  him; and
         WHEREAS, Born July 3, 1960, in McAllen, Mr. Cárdenas earned
  a bachelor of business administration degree from Texas A&M
  University; he worked a short time for an accounting firm before
  becoming an entrepreneur, creating a series of businesses and
  achieving great success with Medical Accounts Receivable
  Services and the Copy It Printing Center; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cárdenas played a vital role in his community,
  leading a wide variety of organizations as president, including
  the Muscular Dystrophy Association of the Rio Grande Valley,
  McAllen Easter Seals, and the Better Business Bureau; he was
  named the 2004 McAllen Chamber of Commerce Man of the Year and the
  2008 Easter Seals Humanitarian of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compelling
  enthusiasm, Mr. Cárdenas possessed the rare ability to have
  people remember his vitality rather than his infirmity, and
  although he will be deeply missed by his family and countless
  friends, he will continue to live in their hearts and minds
  forever; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Oscar Raul Cárdenas; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Oscar Raul Cárdenas.
