Alida Salinas Hernandez |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of McAllen in mourning the loss of businesswoman and |
|
civic leader Alida Salinas Hernandez, who died January 7, 2011, |
|
at the age of 64; and |
|
WHEREAS, Alida Salinas Hernandez was born October 22, |
|
1946, to Eva and Arnaldo Salinas; a self-made entrepreneur who |
|
once walked from store to store downtown looking for work, she |
|
possessed exceptional networking skills, which she used to share |
|
her ideas about improving McAllen; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her leadership of the Heart of the City |
|
Improvement Corporation, great strides were made in transforming |
|
17th Street from an underutilized section of downtown to a |
|
vibrant entertainment district featuring numerous bars and |
|
nightclubs; and |
|
WHEREAS, Over the course of her career, Mrs. Hernandez |
|
helped countless individuals and businesses in McAllen fulfill |
|
their ongoing employment needs; by helping to match workforce |
|
talent with employers throughout the area, she played a key role |
|
in the economic vitality of the region; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was an active member of numerous business and |
|
professional organizations, including Leadership McAllen, the |
|
Organization of Women Executives, the McAllen Business Alliance, |
|
the McAllen Economic Development Corporation, and the McAllen, |
|
Mission, Edinburg, Pharr, and Valley Chambers of Commerce, and |
|
she was recognized for her dedication with many awards and |
|
honors; and |
|
WHEREAS, She also served as a volunteer, organizer, and |
|
fund-raiser with a number of charitable organizations, including |
|
the Palmer Drug Abuse Program, the American Cancer Society, the |
|
Leukemia Association, and the American Heart Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of vision, determination, and strength, |
|
she gave generously to others, and her kind and loving spirit and |
|
humble nature will not be forgotten by those who were privileged |
|
to share in her life; and |
|
WHEREAS, She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, |
|
and grandmother, and she will continue to live in the hearts and |
|
minds of those she left behind; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family and friends of Alida Salinas Hernandez; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Alida Salinas Hernandez. |
