SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1234
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Tiné Valencic, a seventh-grader at Colleyville Middle
  School, who has won the 2011 National Geographic Bee; and
         WHEREAS, On Wednesday, May 25, 2011, Tiné Valencic
  responded successfully to his 25th question:  Sagarmatha
  National Park is the Nepalese national park in which the southern
  part of Mount Everest is located; and
         WHEREAS, This bright and industrious 13-year-old triumphed
  over 53 other contestants representing each state, the District
  of Columbia, Defense Department schools, and United States
  territories; his grand prize includes a $25,000 scholarship, a
  lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society, and a
  trip to the Galapagos Islands; and
         WHEREAS, Tiné became interested in geography when he was in
  kindergarten and was given an atlas; he was the Texas champion
  last year but did not make the national finals; and
         WHEREAS, Tiné has worked hard, pursued his goal, and
  competed well; the new national champion, he is an exemplary
  young man, and he can be justifiably proud of his outstanding
  achievement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby commend Tiné Valencic on winning the 2011
  National Geographic Bee and extend to him best wishes for success
  in all his future endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
