SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1241
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Father Jayme Mathias for his outstanding service as |
|
|
pastor of Cristo Rey Catholic Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A member of the Conventual Franciscan Friars, |
|
|
Father Mathias earned summa cum laude degrees in philosophy |
|
|
and in classical languages from Saint Louis University, where |
|
|
he was the Henley Scholar of Classical Languages; he began his |
|
|
service to Cristo Rey Catholic Church in 1995 as its first |
|
|
director of youth ministry; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He returned to his studies at the Washington |
|
|
Theological Union, earning a master of divinity degree and |
|
|
coordinating a highly successful summer school program at the |
|
|
school; he also worked in the campus ministry at Georgetown |
|
|
University, and he was ordained into the priesthood in 2001; he |
|
|
returned to Cristo Rey Catholic Church in Austin as associate |
|
|
pastor; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Father Mathias emphasizes education in his |
|
|
ministry so that his parishioners can take advantage of all the |
|
|
opportunities available to them; he is also committed to the |
|
|
Catholic ideal of social justice and has been outspoken about the |
|
|
necessity of safe working conditions as an embodiment of that |
|
|
principle; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Inspirational and dedicated to helping others, |
|
|
this beloved pastor has devoted his time and talent unselfishly |
|
|
to the members of his parish and the Austin community; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Father Jayme Mathias on his |
|
|
exceptional service to Cristo Rey Catholic Church and extend to |
|
|
him best wishes for continued success in all his future |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
