SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1244
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Kent Butler
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Kent Butler, who died
  May 13, 2011, at the age of 60; and
         WHEREAS, Kent Butler was an exemplary citizen whose
  groundbreaking work on habitat conservation furthered the goal
  of bringing environmental science to the field of urban planning
  and whose foresight and vision on water issues helped guide
  regional water development efforts; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Butler had worked at The University of Texas
  at Austin since 1978, where he was an associate dean of the
  Community and Regional Planning Program in the School of
  Architecture; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Butler played a vital role in the creation of
  the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve, which has set a standard for
  habitat conservation and is one of the largest urban preserves in
  the country; he also helped formulate the Barton Springs-Edwards
  Aquifer groundwater conservation district, the tangible markers
  of which are the signs throughout Austin that delineate the
  limits of the Edwards Aquifer Recharge Zone; and
         WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he
  gave unselfishly to others, and his down-to-earth demeanor, his
  passion for the profession of teaching, and his enthusiasm for
  living each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by those who
  knew him; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband and father, and although
  he will be deeply missed by his family and countless friends, he
  will continue to live in their hearts and minds for years to come;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 82nd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Kent Butler: his wife, Christy; his children, Lana,
  Emily, and Josh Butler, and Nick Kincaid; his brother, Bruce
  Butler; and his sister, Lind Butler; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Kent Butler.
