LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 10, 2011

TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB123 by Veasey (Relating to an adult diabetes education program in certain county hospital systems and hospital districts.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Health and Safety Code as it relates to an adult diabetes education program in certain county hospital systems and hospital districts.

The Texas Diabetes Council would be required to develop the curriculum for the adult diabetes education program by June 1, 2012.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2011.

It is assumed that the Department of State Health Services could absorb the costs of implementing the bill.

Local Government Impact

The bill would allow DSHS to assist hospital districts and county hospital systems in providing an adult diabetes education program. The fiscal impact to local governments would depend upon whether DSHS would assist in funding and how much assistance would be provided.
