LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 18, 2011

TO:
Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB349 by Walle (Relating to requiring a school district to adopt a policy and collect data regarding restraints administered and citations issued by a school district peace officer.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The agency estimates cost associated with updating Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS). It is anticipated that any additional costs associated with implementation of the legislation could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.

The cost to update the local student information system (SIS) to collect the new data would vary by district.  School districts would likely incur some administrative costs to collect and submit information on restraints, citations, and arrests. These costs would vary depending on the number of incidents requiring reporting.
