LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 14, 2011

TO:
Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB516 by Dutton (Relating to the closure of a school campus by the board of trustees of certain school districts.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The commissioner of education would be given the authority to approve, deny, or approve in the absence of specific action a vote to close a school campus made by the Houston ISD or Dallas ISD boards of trustees.

Local Government Impact

Because the bill would not have statewide impact on units of local government of the same type or class, no comment from this office is required by the rules of the House/Senate as to its probable fiscal implication on units of local government.  Based on enrollment reported through the Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) for the 2010-11 school year, the only school districts that would be subject to the bill's requirements are Houston ISD and Dallas ISD.
