IN RE:
HB598 by Jackson, Jim (Relating to requiring certain applicants for motor vehicle registration to provide proof that the applicant holds a valid driver's license.), As Engrossed
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Transportation Code to prohibit a county assessor-collector from registering a motor vehicle to an unlicensed driver, but would exclude an individual 65 years of age or older; a vehicle owned by a person with a disability; or a nonresident with an applicable driver's license. The bill would require the Texas Department of Public Safety to prescribe rules for the acceptable proof of a valid driver’s license.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
