April 8, 2011

TO:
Honorable Tommy Williams, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB646 by Orr (Relating to reporting requirements for salvage motor vehicles by insurance companies.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require insurance companies to provide notice to owners of certain nonrepairable or salvage vehicles regarding the companies' reporting requirements to the Department of Motor Vehicles and the requirements for operation or transfer of ownership of such vehicles.

Based on the analysis of the Department of Motor Vehicles, it is assumed any costs or duties associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
