LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 11, 2011

TO:
Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB692 by Farias (Relating to high school graduation requirements for a student who is unable to participate in physical activity due to disability or illness.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Local Government Impact

School districts would be required to allow students with disabilities or illnesses that prevented them from participating in physical activity to substitute academic classes for the PE requirement and would be required to establish committees to determine eligibility.

If a school district received a large number of requests from students not receiving special education services, the school district could incur costs associated with convening the required committees. These costs are not expected to be significant.
