IN RE:
HB924 by Bonnen (Relating to the eligibility of certain Texas Rangers for burial in the state cemetery.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Section 2165.256(d) of Government Code to include eligibility for certain Texas Rangers to receive burial in the Texas State Cemetery.  The bill would add eligibility for: (1) an honorably retired officer of the Texas Rangers with at least 12 years of service as an officer; and (2) an officer of the Texas Rangers who served at least 12 years as a Texas Ranger or who died in the line of duty.

According to the Texas State Cemetery, the bill would result in an additional 2 to 3 burials of newly eligible Texas Rangers each year at the cemetery.  It is anticipated that any additional costs associated with implementation of the legislation could be absorbed within existing resources.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2011, or immediately with two-thirds vote of all members of the Legislature.
