LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 13, 2011

TO:
Honorable Tommy Williams, Chair, Senate Committee on Transportation & Homeland Security

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB993 by Rodriguez, Eddie (Relating to the closure of a road or highway by certain firefighters.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize a firefighter to close one or more lanes of a road or highway while performing official duties. If a firefighter closes a road, the firefighter would be required to deploy one or more authorized emergency vehicles with audible and visual signals.

Local Government Impact

The fiscal impact to a fire department would vary depending on whether the department had emergency vehicles equipped with the required audible and visual signals. It is assumed that a fire department would only close a road if the department had properly equipped vehicles; therefore, no significant fiscal impact is anticipated.
