No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to require United States citizens and non-United States citizens to present certain documents as proof of identity when applying for a driver’s license issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS). If one of the identification forms specified by the bill is not presented with an application for a driver’s license, DPS may not issue a driver’s license to the applicant. The bill would take effect September 1, 2011.
