IN RE:
HB1225 by Menendez (Relating to requirements for private passenger vehicle rental companies regarding child safety seats; providing a penalty.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Business and Commerce Code and would require rental car companies to post notice of the state law requiring use of child passenger safety seat systems and the rental car companies’ obligation to provide the safety seat. Rental car companies are required to have child passenger safety seats that meet certain specified conditions, available for rental to customers who rent vehicles. The bill may result in new complaints and investigations by the OAG’s Consumer Protection and Public Health Division. However, it is anticipated that any additional costs associated with implementation of the legislation could be absorbed within existing resources.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
