LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 21, 2011

TO:
Honorable Rob Eissler, Chair, House Committee on Public Education

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1326 by Guillen (Relating to the optional flexible school day program provided by school districts.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would expand eligibility for the optional flexible school day program.  The Texas Education Agency assumes that the potential increase in applications for the program resulting from the provisions of the bill could be addressed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.   School districts opting to convert campuses to operate within the optional flexible school day program would likely incur costs associated with changes to attendance accounting procedures and systems.  However, such costs would be incurred only upon a local decision to participate in the program and could be offset with possible savings, depending on local circumstances.
