The bill would amend the Occupations Code to require the Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) to designate an electromagnetic pulse device to disable a motor vehicle if the Commission determines the device is suitable for use by officers. TCLEOSE would also be required to establish a voluntary training program of licensed officers that provides instruction in the use of these devices, and administer the training program and issue a certificate of proficiency to each officer that the Commission determines has successfully completed the training program.
This bill would take effect September 1, 2011.
