LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 82ND LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 21, 2011

TO:
Honorable Larry Phillips, Chair, House Committee on Transportation

FROM:
John S O'Brien, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB1667 by Harper-Brown (Relating to the authority of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to contract with certain entities to provide a department service.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Transportation Code to authorize the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to contract with a private entity to provide a service that would otherwise be provided by DMV if the DMV determines that the private entity could provide the service more efficiently. The bill would require DMV to consider the costs to the state of contracting with a private entity for the provision of a DMV service.

Based on the analysis of DMV, is assumed the provisions of the bill would not result in a significant fiscal impact to the agency or the State.

Local Government Impact

No fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
