No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend Government Code to allow governmental entities to redact certain personal information requested under the Public Information Act (PIA) without requiring a decision from the attorney general. Specific types of personal information referenced in the bill include: vehicle license data; vehicle registration data; personal identification data; and credit card, debit card, charge card, and access card numbers. The bill would also clarify the determination of when a PIA request is officially received by an entity.

The bill would take effect September 1, 2011 and apply only to requests received on or after that date.
